Bat-watching at the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin





Every night between March and October in downtown Austin, almost a million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from under the bridge, hunting for dinner. It is estimated they consume from 10,000 to 30,000 pounds of insects every night. We had to curtail our evening because Kennedy got sick. (Worthy of another posting, but we'll spare you the details.)
